Class Description

This course teaches fundamentals and concepts of time-based and interactive media. It assumes previous knowledge of basic image editing and processing techniques as taught in the prerequisite classe 65A. We will use Macromedia Flash as the tool and context for learning concepts relating to time-based and interactive media production.

Prerequisite

Studio Art 65A - Digital Imaging or demonstrated proficiency in that class' subject matter.

Requirements

- Web page
- Flash drive or external media for storing files
- No book required, but if you want to buy one:
Macromedia Flash MX 2004 Bible - For general Flash learning and tutorials
Essential ActionScript 2.0 - For more advanced Actionscript and OOP
The Animator's Survival Kit - For techniques and principles of animation

Grading

The final grade will be determined from a combination of class assignments, attendance and participation in class meetings, and a final project.

Attendance and participation: 20%
Since there are only 10 scheduled class meetings attendance is critical. One excused absense will be tolerated provided prior written notification (email is fine). More than one absence will affect your overall grade. In-class exercises will be uploaded to EEE dropbox to guage attendance and participation.

Assignments: 40%
There will be two assignments due the begining of weeks two and three.

Final Project: 40%
This will include the completion and submission of a substantial project in addition to the presentation in front of class during finals week.
